Hi,
Apologies if this has seems like its been asked several times but I need to try and get clarity for my client.
Currently, we produce PDF's for our client which either get emailed or bulk printed. We have differerent document types e.g. Invoices, credit notes, renewal notices etc and are using XSL-FO and a rendering server to produce unique PDF's for each customer of our client. Our client has asked if we can turn some of these forms into being editable i.e. We onyl want one or 2 form elements to be editable (e.g. Number of cases, Case Number) but when their customer received the PDF, they can fill in the form and click a buttoin to send it back or save it, return to the PDF at soe other time, complete it and send it. We have already completed a proof of concept to do this but liek many others, have encountered the reader extension issue for Adobe Reader X and previous versions where the user can not save or send the PDF.
What I'm trying to understand is the Adobe license agreement. We have been told we would need to purchase a very expensive digital key from Adobe PER document type (i.e. $20K for Invoices, $20K for Credit Notes) to be able to enable reader extensions for these dynamic documents. It's in the region of $20-30K / document which is astounding. I have Acrobat Pro and can enable reader extensions at no extra cost. If I use Reader XI I can freely fill out the form and save it with no extra cost but if my client wants to broaden the reader version so thet their customers can fill out and return the form (essentially updating some fields), the cost is going to be $250K+.
Can anybody clarify this licensing question. I have read several threads on the EULA about the number of unique recipients but here, every document we produce is unique and going to be filled in by one person. Please remember, we are using a server based product to generate the PDF's, each one being unique.
Any help would be most appreciated
M
