I have a huge collection of documents that need to be digitized, so I bought a scanner and subscribed to CS Cloud, with Acrobat XI. Now I'm trying to figure out the best settings to use for my project.
One thing I'm curious about is the difference between color and B&W scans. I assumed B&W text should be scanned in B&W mode and that color scans would have a bigger file size. But I conducted some simple experiments and was surprised to discover that some of my B&W scans actually have a bigger file size than color scans of the same documents.
To cut to the chase, imagine a ten-page document consisting of eight pages of text (B&W), one page featuring a combination of text and B&W images and a tenth page that features a color image, what would be the best way to scan it into a PDF (with OCR/searchable text)? My guess is scan the color image in color mode but scan everything else in B&W, then combine them into the same PDF. Am I right?
