Any advantage to re-creating a PDF from original files when creating a smaller version?

I'm in the process of creating a number of PDFs using Acrobat 10.0.0 and the "Combine Files into a Single PDF" feature. The original files are also PDFs, created by a scanning machine in a library, which creates version 1.3 PDFs that are around 590kB in size, on average.

I'd like to end up with two versions of my combined PDF, one using the standard "Larger File Size" and the other using "Smaller File Size", as provided by the Combine Files dialog in Acrobat. If I create one PDF using the "Larger File Size" setting and then re-sample it to get a "Smaller File Size" PDF, am I going to get a noticeable loss of quality, compared to re-sampling the file from the original PDFs?
