Hello
We are having a difficult time with our interactive PDF with videos embedded.
We have a PDF file with several videos embedded in it that we are using (or trying to use) across a widely disbursed labor force (international, some volunteers, some as a business, some technically savvy though most not). We need this PDF to work seamlessly for all users, but we are having difficulty just getting there with our internal production team.
When the PDF was first completed, the video would be choppy on the second and later video that a user played. The first would play smoothly, but each after that would play choppy. Regardless of which you started with. This was the case on most computers, but there were a few that handeled all videos fine.
After a bunch of research on these forums, I realized the issue had to do with the pixel vs print resampling and discovered that on my machine and various others, if the user right clicked on the video and played it in floating mode, the video played smoothly. We considered having our vendor create a new version that automatically played the video in floating mode (not as elegent, but better than choppy), then I discovered I wasn’t running the latest version of Acrobat Reader (I had X, instead of XI) or flash and when I upgraded those, it resolved all playback issues on my machine and this has worked for several other users as well. (interesting note for others, we have had to update flash by going through acrobat's prompting rather than direct to the flash page for it to work)
However, I still have at least one user who is having serious playback issues whenever the video is in full screen mode, regardless of whether it is played in embedded or floating mode. In this case, the videos seem to play fine as long as they are displaying not in full screen mode, but once the user goes into full screen mode the videos are choppy. The specs of this user’s computer are considerably higher than most (if not all other) users we have, which makes it even more strange.
- Apple
- OSX 10.6.8
- 2x2.4 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
- 32 GB memory
- ATI Radeon HD 5870 video card
- 1024 MB video ram
- 7200 RPM hard drive
- Adobe Reader 11.0.2 or Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.1.6 (tried on both)
- Flash Player 11.2.202.228 (12.0) Adobe Flash
There are numerous reasons we want to stick with the PDF format, but the playback issues are very problematic for the quality of the program and consumer experience.
How do we resolve this?
Thank you
